Mission Hills Group
The pioneer in China's leisure industry, Mission Hills Group has combined the development of the world's top golf destinations with the country's multi-faceted tourism sector.
In 1992, to meet the growing demand for high-end luxury brands, Mission Hills Group set out to develop an unprecedented golf and leisure resort within 10 years. On a 20-square kilometer parcel of barren land bordering Shenzhen and Dongguan, Mission Hills Golf Club and Resort was developed. It is the only golf facility in the world featuring 12 internationally-renowned golf courses.
In 2009, Mission Hills Group crossed the Qiongzhou Strait and extended its reach to the tropical island of Hainan, China to open Mission Hills • Haikou. An ecological project on land unsuitable for significant agriculture, it is part of a national strategy to build Hainan into an "International Tourism Island." Mission Hills Group assists by offering a gamut of activities and amenities. These include prestigious international golf tournaments and other sporting events, lifestyle and entertainment services, convention and exhibition venues, well-appointed hotel and resort facilities, and more.
As early as 1994, Dr. David Chu, founder and chairman of Mission Hills Group, adopted the concept of industrializing sports. He also initiated the development of a new leisure industry in China in 2002, actively investing in large-scale projects. Dr. Chu allocated more than RMB10 billion to build Asia's largest tennis center with 51 tennis courts, four international clubhouses, luxurious hotels, a large international conference center, spa and lifestyle complexes complete with ecological gardens and gourmet dining establishments. Mission Hills golf and tennis academies and luxurious, eco-friendly residences are other highlights.
Each year, more than 3 million visitors come to Mission Hills for leisure and business, making it a place for both total relaxation and networking opportunities for guests from around the world. Some of Mission Hills' accolades include the world-renowned "Green Oscar Award," "The International Awards for Livable Communities," "Golf Resort of the Year," by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) and the rank of a National 5A-Level Tourist Attraction – China's highest recognition.
Mission Hills Group projects are more than building world-class golf and leisure retreats; they also create a unique holiday recreation brand. As China consistently promotes grand economic, trade, sports and cultural events, Mission Hills Group does the same by hosting more than 100 international events. These include the APEC Preparatory Meeting; inaugural Straits Exchange Foundation Golf Event, Laureus World Sports Awards, LangLang The Most Beautiful Sound of the Chinese, and more.
As early as 1995, Mission Hills became the first club in China to host golf's World Cup. In 2001, the world's best golfer, Tiger Woods, visited Mission Hills during his maiden trip to China. In 2007, Mission Hills Group reached another golf milestone when it won the right to host 12 consecutive editions of the World Cup which is broadcast to more than 148 nations.
Mission Hills Group has always been devoted to integrating China into golf's international arena. On 13 November 2009, the PGA TOUR presented Dr. David Chu with the "David Chu Award" for his great contributions to China's golf development and the sport's globalization. This was the first honor of its kind for a Chinese from one of golf's ruling bodies.
In April 2006, the Minor Planet Centre approved three Chinese leading figures in their respective industries to have an asteroid named after them in recognition of their achievements. Dr. David Chu had an asteroid named after him for his dedication and contribution to China and its development.
Mission Hills' influence extends beyond golf. Mission Hills Group together with Dr. David Chu contributed greatly to Beijing's successful Olympic bid. Mission Hills Group has also supported Hong Kong in preparation of the South Asian Sports Event, helped Shenzhen in its bid for The World University Games and Dongguan’s recognition as an "International Garden City." Since 1990, Mission Hills Group has been creating, supporting and participating in more than 180 social and charitable events. The Group not only makes dreams come true, but also believes in spreading community goodwill and reaching out for the public welfare.
Mission Hills Group is the most innovative hospitality and leisure company in China and the Asia Pacific region. A “United Nations” specialized team of experts from over 20 countries validated Mission Hills’ strategies and plans as the model for China's leisure industry development.
